Hello All, I'm using apcupsd for some years now, and it works great - thanks a lot for this excellent software! I'd like to ask for opinion of community on one of the integration issues I have. In my small set up, there is a server running 24/7 working under Fedora, powered via an APC Smart 1000 UPS. This UPS is being monitored by apcupsd, installed on this server. The server is connected via wired Ethernet to a "communication centre" located in a different room. There is only network equipment there (a router, a Gigabit swith and Wi-Fi access point, plus a couple of back up modems). That "communication centre" has another UPS that I also want to monitor from my server machine. The issue is that there's no computer nearby the second UPS that I could connect the UPS to. So I'm looking for a solution to "forward" RS-232 port via the IP. Ideally, it should be a small device that I could plug my RS-232 cable into, and then plug Ethernet cable to the other port on the device. Then on my PC there should be a driver or some application that just emulates RS-232 port based on the data it gets from the IP network. I found some solutions of this kind, but they are all presented as being Windows-compatible, without stating anything about Linux support. Has someone else got such a solution working, or at least thought of anything similar? Would be nice to know how this is realized in other projects. P.S. I would also be interested to know if it's any easier to get a similar solution working for USB port instead of RS-232. If it is, I would just get a newer UPS with USB connectivity... -- Best regards, Andrew |
