I just discover that composite accents do not work in Alpha under 10.5! This is not just for the a2d1, but also for some a1d5 I tested. To be more precise, I have an "International English" keyboard (and the main language of the system is English (including LANG)), and é (e acute) is typed by "opt-e e". The effect of this key press is just a plain "e". Similarly with other composite letters, like a-grave (typed by "opt-` a"). In contrast c-cedille, a-ring, etc. work normally. Furthermore, it is only in the main typing window the problem occurs. In dialogues there is no problem. (There are no problems in other applications that I have tested.) But here is the most mysterious thing, or perhaps the main clue: if I attach a Spanish keyboard (or just switch in the input menu and pretend my keyboard is Spanish), these accented letter go through alright! The difference is that here e-acute is typed without the option key: simply "'e" (the accent is a dead key). a-grave is typed "`a". Let me stress again that I only see this under 10.5. Cheers, Joachim. |
