Whilst researching my previous post I found that the full mailing list archive at http://www-124.ibm.com/pipermail/aixtoolbox-list.mbox/aixtoolbox-list.mbox has some unquoted "From"s in the text which confuse Mozilla Mail and mybe other mail clients. Hi, I'm looking for the source to the gcc 2.95.3 that's on the download site in binary form only. I'm looking for it to support a project on PalmOS which in turn requires certain tools (known as the prc-tools) which are built (in the most general case) by patching gcc 2.95.3 source. So I'd be really grateful if someone could point me to the source as it's not on the website nor the source CDs that I have found. Many thanks in advance. |

Hi, "lppchk -c" command says lppchk: File /usr/bin/yacc could not be located. Is it possible during "bison package" installation, AIX deletes /usr/bin/yacc ? Thanks, Laurent |

Hi. A new Apache version 1.3.31 was released , which fixes error that might be security related. I was wondering when this new release might be made available in the AIX Toolbox ? Best Regards, Laurent |

I compiled OpenAFS with this version of bison installed. The compilation stopped after a call to bison "bison -y ..." with the error message "broken pipe" from bison. The same happens with 1.875-1. bison 1.34-2 works. Any ideas? There is binary compatibility in AIX; the 5.1 images (and 4.3.3 images) run on 5.2 also. There is nothing gained by building separate images. As packages are modified, they are built on 5.1 so that they run on all 5.1 and higher levels of AIX. There are not any plans for an apt repository. If you are looking for alternative methods of downloading, you might want to try the "update_tbox" script a try, from the contrib directory. It compares the versions of packages installed on your system with what is available at the Toolbox FTP site, lists anything not current, and offers to install them interactively or automatically. Its main drawback is that it cannot check/download things from the cryptographic-content site, but that is only a small subset of the Toolbox images. The script is at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/contrib/update_tbox If you have a lot of free space and want to keep a local copy of everything, there is also the wget --mirror option. See "info wget" for information and options for doing that. On Thu, Jun 24, 2004 at 02:00:57PM -0500, Dan...@jb... wrote: > > > My two cents...that would be most helpful. You can run php with this apache; it is in a separate rpm image. You can get it at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/php/php-4.0.6-5.aix4.3.ppc.rpm And if you want the manual, it is at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/php/php-manual-4.0.6-5.aix4.3.ppc.rpm This is not a particularly recent version of PHP however, though it should be ok for most general use. You can also try building a newer module if you like, by downloading the source from php.net. I understand this is frustrating (as a developer, it is frustrating for me as well). Here is what I know about it: gcc/g++ 3.3.2 is still under review with the IBM legal team. Yes, I know it has been for a very long time. Why does it take so long? That's hard to answer without talking about the legal review process, which I can't do. The approval can vary considerably depending on non-Toolbox factors... what other things the same lawyers may be working on and whether or not such items are given higher priority than updating versions of Toolbox packages (which is a free "convenience" to users who don't want to build their own open source but who don't necessarily care about having the most recent versions). The reviews are taken extremely seriously. I know that the latest is now 3.4, not 3.3.2, but because 3.3.2 is in process and is much newer than what we have today, I don't want to pull the plug on what they currently have under review. For what it's worth, gcc is the highest priority Toolbox item for update. (Well, OpenSSL is right up there also; since gcc is considerably larger, OpenSSL might clear before it but I really don't know.) Without having a good time estimate, I can't pass any meaningful estimate along. As always (you've heard this before), this is open source that anyone is free to download and build as needed, if they accept the license terms, and there are other places to get images pre-built for AIX as well, including Bull (which I see Remco was about to point out) at www.bullfreeware.com, and UCLA at http://pdslib4aix.seas.ucla.edu/. Both have more recent versions of gcc available. The source for gdb is compiled from the GNUPro source package. You can find GNUPro on that page (for some reason, because of the capitalization, it was alphabetized at the end of all the g's, but it is there). Most packages names do match their source images, but this is an exception. Because gdb, gcc, g++, and binutils are all built out of the GNUPro source, the image contains source for all of these in one image. They will be separated in future versions, when available. Running "rpm -bi <packagename>" on an installed package, you can see a line that tells the name of the "Source RPM", so that helps identify it if the names don't match. A new version of rsync (2.5.4-3) is now available, which fixes this problem with writing to large files. The configure script for rsync correctly detects support for mkstemp on AIX 5.1, however the large-file enabled mkstemp64 was not added to libc.a until a later release of AIX 5.1/5.2. I have compiled the rsync RPM so it uses mktemp instead of mkstemp, which fixes this problem and allows rsync to correctly copy files greater than 2gb in size. Please let me know if you have any problems with this new RPM. Philip and other IBM folks, Following up the rsync issue, I have found more useful information. Problem: rsync as packaged by IBM can not write beyond 2,147,483,647 bytes. The write failed exactly at 2,147,483,647 which is 2*1024*1024*1024 - 1. Is kwrite() capable handling 2+GB file? (2) Could this be the remote rsync problem? No. Because: (2.1) rsync 6+GB file to the remote box succeeded as I reported earlier, which means the remote rsync is capable write 6+GB file. And this appears that rsync on IBM AIX 5.2 is capable reading 6+GB file. (2.2) rsync on IBM AIX 5.2 locally also fails. (2.3) rsync on remote box to itself succeeded for the same 2+GB file. Environment: # oslevel -r 5200-02 # rpm -ql rsync-2.5.4-1 /opt/freeware/bin/rsync /opt/freeware/doc/rsync-2.5.4 /opt/freeware/doc/rsync-2.5.4/COPYING /opt/freeware/doc/rsync-2.5.4/README /opt/freeware/doc/rsync-2.5.4/tech_report.tex /opt/freeware/man/man1/rsync.1 /opt/freeware/man/man5/rsyncd.conf.5 /usr/bin/rsync Other info: - Straightforward compilation for the latest version of rsync 2.6.2 have the same problem. Modify config.h not to mkstemp() may fix it. - This problem should be very easy to reproduce. -- Michael Wang * http://www.unixlabplus.com/ * mw...@un... |

The suggestion to use temporary file location is based on that the destination does not have enough space. In my case, the destination does have enough space. While "rsync" failed, "tar -cvf ... | tar -xvf ..." succeeded. The reason I prefer rsync over tar/cp/etc is the ability to rerun the command without re-copying files which are successfully copied. I think my problem is different than the one originally reported, although the error message is the same. Thanks. -- Michael Wang * http://www.unixlabplus.com/ * mw...@un... |

An ssl-enabled version of wget is available in the AIX Toolbox on the "Cryptographic Content" site. This allows you to run wget on secure (e.g. "https" format) sites. The version remains 1.9, and the non-ssl-enabled version continues to be available on the primary Toolbox site. If you don't need to access secure sites with wget, you can continue using the existing version. The letters "ssl" are appended to the release number of the ssl-enabled version, so you will notice that the image is named: wget-1.9-2ssl.aix5.1.ppc.rpm. To get to the cryptographic-content site, you must register and actively accept the license. Access is free. The site is available at: http://www6.software.ibm.com/dl/aixtbx/aixtbx-p You can find wget at the bottom of the "Web Server Tools" category. Of course, to use this you must also install the openssl image if you do not already have it. -- David Clissold cl...@au... |
