Hi, if you want to install ssl after a BOS installation, you can use the nim -script (define a script resource before) the script should contain: 1st: mount the toolbox directory from -where it is .... 2nd: use the rpm cmd to install .... cheers Rabe, Kathy A *HS wrote: > Hello. > > How can I use NIM to install ssl from the toolbox to a remote client? > > Thank you. > > > > Kathy Rabe > > University of Virginia Health System\Computing Services > > 434.924.5230 ka...@vi... > > > |

There is a new version of the glib2 RPM available for AIX, which includes a workaround for the problems described in an earlier post to the list, titled "Illegal instruction(coredump) by pango-1.2.5-1 ,gtk2-2.2.4-1". The new glib2 RPM is available from the following location: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/glib2/glib2-2.2.3-3.aix5.1.ppc.rpm If you experienced a failed pango or gtk2 installation earlier, you should attempt to deinstall the existing pango and gtk2 RPMs from the system before installing the new glib2 RPM. Here are the steps I would follow for installing this update: # rpm -e gtk2 # rpm -e pango # rpm -Uvh glib2-2.2.3-3.aix5.1.ppc.rpm pango-1.2.5-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm gtk2-2.2.4-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm -- Philip K. Michael: The problem with fontconfig has been fixed. There is a new version of fontconfig (2.2.0-3) which has been copied to the AIX toolbox ftp site, and should be available soon. There is a known issue with the latest levels of the AIX kernel, where dlerror() is not returning a valid error from a failed dlsym() call, which is in turn causing programs using the glib2 gmodule API to crash. This is the cause of the two errors you are seeing while installing pango and gtk2. There are several workarounds for this problem right now: - Stay at Mozilla 1.4.2 which requires GTK1 instead of GTK2. - Revert to an earlier level of the AIX kernel if possible. - Wait for either a workaround for the glib2 rpm or for a fix for the AIX kernel. We hope that something will be available soon, and I can announce to the list when a fix is ready. -- Philip K. Warren pk...@us... Way back when the Toolbox was being launched, rpm-4 was just on the verge of coming out. When it finally did come out, it had the unfortunate side-effect of having an incompatible database format, and the migration path between -3 and -4 was not smooth (there were several reports of lost data in the transition). Hence, we decided to stick with -3.0.6 because it was spec file compatible with -4 (3.0.4 was not as I recall) and some of the major design points behind rpm-4 in terms of overall system management weren't key on AIX as an adjunct, as opposed to primary, installation system. It's been a long time now, so maybe it's time to look at upgrading, but as with other proposed additions, the processes can take a good bit of time to get going. At the risk of giving an over-simplified example: you can change the library search path in an executable that has already been created, as long as it hasn't been stripped. Basically, you just relink it with the -blibpath option to ld, specifying the runtime libpath that you want. In a basic example, you might have executable "foo" and use it to relink and create "foo2": $ ld -blibpath:/usr/lib:/lib:/usr/local/lib -lc foo -o foo2 So if "foo" didn't have /usr/local/lib in its library search path, "foo2" now does. Run "dump -Hv" on each executable to compare. This is overly basic, because I've only got "-lc" for libc.a and you wouldn't need /usr/local/lib for that, but it should show the basic idea. You'd add more "-lxxx" options as needed. Another problem I ran into is that Openldap by default builds libldap and liblber as shared libraries and ld at the end builds slapd with hardcoded paths to these libraries. Workaround for now is that I added --disable-shared to my allready long list of configure flags, but I'd rather just remove the paths from the linking entries and have the runtime linker find the libs in /usr/local/lib where the installer puts them. I thought there was a way to edit the linking info in an executable, unfortunately I haven't been able to find that info (or should I feed ld more flags to make sure it doesn't put those paths in there in the first place?) > Regards, > > Steve Behling > > __________________ > Steve Behling CFD Application Specialist, IBM Deep Computing > Phone: 612-626-8926 Cell phone: 651-303-0679 > > > aix...@ww... wrote on > 08/16/2004 07:44:46 AM: > > > Hi All, > > > > I'm trying to build openldap (with a postgresql backend) and ssl > support. > > Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to convince ld (which is > /usr/ccs/bin/ld) > > to look for libssl.a in /opt/freeware/bin, even with a small > test-program, > > it fails: > > > > $ env > > > PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/pgsql/bin:/usr/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ > ucb: > > /home/remco/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin:. > > > LDFLAGS=-Wl,-bnoquiet,-blibpath:/opt/freeware/lib:/usr/lib:/lib:/usr/ > local/lib > > CC=gcc > > CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/freeware/include -I/usr/local/include > > LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/lib:/opt/freeware/lib:/usr/local/lib > > LIBPATH=/usr/lib:/lib:/opt/freeware/lib:/usr/local/lib > > <and some more> > > > > $ gcc $CFLAGS $CPPFLAGS $LDFLAGS -lssl a.c > > ld: 0706-006 Cannot find or open library file: -l ssl > > ld:open(): A file or directory in the path name does not > exist. > > > > a.c is as simple as: > > > > char SSL_library_init(); > > > > int main() { > > SSL_library_init() > > ; return 0; } > > > > but if I look in /opt/freeware/lib: > > > > $ ls /opt/freeware/lib > > ethereal libglib-1.2.so.0.0.10 libgtk-1.2.so.0 > > > libpopt.so.0.0.0 libssl.a > > libbz2.a libglib.so > libgtk-1.2.so.0.9.1 > > librpm.so libz.a > > libcrypto-static.a libgmodule-1.2.so.0 libgtk.so > > > librpm.so.0 rpm > > libcrypto.a libgmodule-1.2.so.0.0.10 libintl.a > > > librpm.so.0.0.0 rpmpopt > > libgdk-1.2.so.0 libgmodule.so libltdl.a > > > librpmbuild.so rpmrc > > libgdk-1.2.so.0.9.1 libgthread-1.2.so.0 libltdl.la > > > librpmbuild.so.0 > > libgdk.so libgthread-1.2.so.0.0.10 libpopt.so > > > librpmbuild.so.0.0.0 > > libglib-1.2.so.0 libgthread.so libpopt.so.0 > > > libssl-static.a > > > > the same problem occurs if I try to use cc_r as my c-compiler.... > > > > -- > > Met vriendelijke groeten, > > > > Remco Post > > > > SARA - Reken- en Netwerkdiensten > http://www.sara.nl > > High Performance Computing Tel. +31 20 592 3000 Fax. +31 20 668 > 3167 > > > > "I really didn't foresee the Internet. The ssl-enabled version of apache 1.3.31 is now available on the Toolbox 'cryptographic content' site. (The regular build, without ssl, is on the main AIX ftp site; see note below). This also means the corresponding mod_ssl module is updated, to version 2.8.19. These images can be found under the "Web Server Tools" group on the crypto web site, accessed via: http://www6.software.ibm.com/dl/aixtbx/aixtbx-p In addition, OpenSSL version 0.9.7d is now available at the same location. In fact, the apache update was built using this new openssl-0.9.7d image, so if you plan to install this apache you should also download the new openssl. The earlier openssl is still (for now) on the website, so be sure that you look for the one that specifically says 0.9.7d in the image name. The images appear under the "OpenSSL -- SSL Cryptographic Libraries" group header. The original note referencing updated apache: >There is a new update of Apache in the Toolbox, from 1.3.29 to 1.3.31. >Note that the Toolbox Apache is just the plain bare-bones HTTP server, >for basic usage. In AIX, LIBPATH only affects runtime, shared libraries. To get ld to find the libraries add the -L option to your link. -L/opt/freeware/bin -lssl (you say /opt/freeware/bin, but change it to /opt/freeware/lib or whereever libssl.a can be found.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache: There is a new update of Apache in the Toolbox, from 1.3.29 to 1.3.31. Note that the Toolbox Apache is just the plain bare-bones HTTP server, for basic usage. If you are interested in the Apache web server, I also recommend checking into the IBM HTTP Server (IHS) product, which is Apache-based with enhancements, and is also a free download, with support available (unlike the Toolbox 'as-is' copy). See: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/webservers/httpservers For the updated AIX Toolbox apache (1.3-based), the new images are: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/apache/apache-1.3.31-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/apache/apache-devel-1.3.31-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/apache/apache-manual-1.3.31-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm An ssl-enabled copy of the same version will be available soon (with updated mod_ssl) from the cryptographic-content site. (The newer OpenSSL 0.9.7d should also appear at about the same time.) I'll send a separate note as soon as these images are publicly downloadable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perl: The AIX Toolbox perl image has been updated from 5.8.0 to 5.8.2. It is available at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/perl/perl-5.8.2-1.aix5.1.ppc.rpm As a reminder, you already have perl preinstalled with AIX. The Toolbox image is useful if you specifically need the 5.8.2 version, but in most cases you may find it easiest to simply use the default /usr/bin/perl that is already on your system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
