This is already implement. On the wall every task has a quick menu (blue down arrow on the top right of the card). If you click this, one of the options is mark the task impeded. You can then lodge an impediment against the task and the task is marked red with a watermarked background.
In version 0.8 there will be a menu item to list all the impediments together and report on them but even in 0.7.5 (current version) you can do as I have described and marked the story as unimpeded when the impediment is removed.
I decided not to implement this as a status, since the task could be impeded at any of the normal stages of it's lifecycle.
