WordCraft is an open-source word processing and document editing application built in Rust that provides an alternative to Microsoft Word. The software features a familiar ribbon-based interface with tools for writing, formatting, reviewing, and designing professional documents. It supports Microsoft Word DOCX files alongside ODT, RTF, HTML, Markdown, LaTeX, and plain text formats, with options for exporting documents to PDF. WordCraft includes advanced editing capabilities such as tables, styles, page layouts, track changes, comments, citations, bibliographies, and mail merge. The application also provides command-line tools, a JSON control interface, and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI agents to create, edit, inspect, and automate documents. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and web browsers, WordCraft supports offline document processing without requiring cloud services and is currently in alpha development.
