tv.js is a JavaScript smart TV experiment for streaming movies through a TV-style interface. It was built as a 24-hour hackathon project and is designed to run as a server with a browser-based front end. The app can run on a Raspberry Pi connected to a television through HDMI. Its interface can be controlled from a smartphone, so users do not need a keyboard or mouse in the living room. The project originally combined movie lookup, torrent search, BitTorrent streaming, and video conversion into one prototype. Because it deals with torrent-based media access, it should only be used with content the user is legally allowed to stream.

Features

  • Smart TV streaming interface
  • Node and Chrome-based server
  • Raspberry Pi TV setup
  • Smartphone remote control support
