QWERTY-fr is a free, open-source keyboard layout designed to combine standard QWERTY typing with convenient access to French characters. It preserves the original QWERTY key positions while introducing additional symbols and accented letters. Users can type French diacritics, ligatures, and special punctuation through intuitive AltGr combinations. The layout supports uppercase accented characters that can be difficult to enter using traditional AZERTY keyboards. It also includes nonbreaking spaces and narrow nonbreaking spaces for proper French typography. Its design maintains compatibility with familiar keyboard shortcuts and English typing habits. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, QWERTY-fr also accommodates characters used in German, Spanish, Italian, and other European languages.
