NFCGate is an open-source Android application for capturing, analyzing, and modifying Near Field Communication (NFC) traffic during security research. It helps researchers investigate NFC protocols, evaluate communication behavior, and identify potential vulnerabilities. The application can capture NFC exchanges generated by other applications running on the device. Its relay mode forwards communication between two Android devices through a server, using one as a reader and another as an emulated tag. Replay mode reproduces previously captured communication for controlled testing. Clone mode reproduces initial tag information, such as identifiers, where supported. Captured traffic can be imported or exported in PCAPNG format for analysis with Wireshark. Certain operating modes require compatible Android hardware, Host Card Emulation, and an Xposed-compatible hooking framework.
