CS 341 Coursebook is an open-source introductory systems programming textbook used by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. It assumes prior programming experience and some familiarity with assembly concepts. The material teaches C while covering processes, file descriptors, memory, pointers, debugging, threads, synchronization, networking, and other operating-system topics. Exercises and rapid-fire questions reinforce concepts throughout the book. The project evolved from an earlier collaborative wikibook experiment and emphasizes greater rigor, citations, and structured reference material. Its source is maintained primarily in LaTeX and can be built into PDF, Markdown, and HTML formats. Automated build tooling helps contributors focus on writing rather than manual publication work.
