Jumpgate is a TCP connection forwarder that provides many enhancements and improvements over the existing programs that do the same thing. Only tested on OpenBSD, but should run without problems on any Unix-like system.

XFile is a compact file manager for Unix and alike systems running X11. It presents the file system as is, without imaginary locations, trashcans etc. XFile uses its own file type/association database in typical Unix/RC like syntax, which is easily editable. Mounting support for file systems defined in fstab, and integration with mount daemons that manage a dedicated media directory is also included. Angst is an active sniffer, based on libpcap and libnet. Dumps into a file the payload of all the TCP packets received on the specified ports. Also, it implements methods for active sniffing of networks with switches.

NXLog is a modular, multi-threaded, high-performance log management solution with multi-platform support. In concept it is similar to syslog-ng or rsyslog but is not limited to unix/syslog only. It can collect logs from files in various formats, receive logs from the network remotely over UDP, TCP or TLS/SSL . It supports platform specific sources such as the Windows Eventlog, Linux kernel logs, Android logs, local syslog etc. Writing and reading logs to/from databases is also supported. The collected logs can be stored into files, databases or forwarded to a remote log server using various protocols. The old BSD Syslog and the newer IETF syslog standard is fully supported by NXLog in addition to Snare, XML, JSON, GELF, KVP, CSV and custom formats. A key concept in NXLog is to be able to handle and preserve structured logs. No need to convert everything to syslog and parse these logs again at the other side. It has powerful message filtering, log rewrite and conversion capabilities.

pfck is a perl script that reads the state table of pf and reports back flows based on a supplied port number. pfck is very handy in ddos attacks to identify who's hitting a host or network on a particular port service, and who they are specifically hitting.

tcptrace is a tool written by Shawn Ostermann at Ohio University, for analysis of TCP dump files. It can take as input the files produced by several popular packet-capture programs, including tcpdump, snoop, etherpeek, HP Net Metrix, and WinDump. tcptrace can produce several different types of output containing information on each connection seen, such as elapsed time, bytes and segments sent and recieved, retransmissions, round trip times, window advertisements, throughput, and more. It can also produce a number of graphs for further analysis.

If you have a dynamic IP address which changes periodically (monthly, weekly or even daily), then this can make it difficult or impossible to connect to services at home, like remote desktop or FTP. Using ARecordUpdater allows you to make sure you can always reach your home network, because it makes sure that your hostname is always up-to-date with the latest IP address. The update client can be run using a cron job to automate the process. So once you have it properly configured you don’t have to worry about it; you only need to remember your hostname to reach your files and services.
