Clonezilla is a partition and disk imaging/cloning program similar to True Image®. It saves and restores only used blocks in hard drive. Two types of Clonezilla are available, Clonezilla live and Clonezilla SE (Server Edition).

Docx2txt is a Perl based command-line utility to convert (even corrupted) Microsoft docx documents to reasonably formatted text files, along with appropriate character conversions. Apart from Perl it also requires a command line unzipping program like unzip/7z/pkzipc/wzunzip.

Greenstone is a complete digital library creation, management and distribution package created and distributed by the New Zealand Digital Library Project. ExifCleaner is a cross-platform desktop app for cleaning metadata from images, videos, PDFs and other files. With ExifCleaner you can keep file sizes to a minimum and keep potential attackers from being able to use your GPS and device metadata.

SortPhotos is a Python-based command-line utility that organizes photos and videos into structured directories based on their date and time metadata. It can sort files by year, month, day, or any custom format using EXIF and other metadata tags, making it easy to transform messy collections into neatly arranged photo libraries. The tool works with both images and videos, automatically renames files if desired, and can filter which metadata groups or tags to prioritize when determining file dates. SortPhotos includes options for copying versus moving files, recursive searches, silent or test modes, and customizable start times for when a “day” begins. It also prevents duplicate files by comparing content, with an option to keep duplicates if needed. With support for automation through launch agents or cron jobs, SortPhotos is well-suited for photographers, archivists, and anyone looking to streamline large personal or professional media collections.

cdbkup performs full or incremental backups of local or remote filesystems onto CD-R(W)s. Results are stored as tarballs on single- or multi-session ISO CDs. It works either interactively for multi-CD backups, or non-interactively for single-CD backups.

The filewatcher program monitors system files. Changes are archived into an RCS repository and change reports are sent via e-mail.

Simplebackup is a cross-platform backup program. It reads a configuration file then builds a compress backup set, finally places the compressed files into another location (a directory, a remote http,ftp,sftp server or even one or more email accounts).

File Read Test is a tool that reads disk files or directories and stops on the first read error. A second tool, Quick Disk Test, fills a disk with test data and verifies that it can be read back without errors.

Amanda is the most popular Backup and Archiving software that protects multiple machines running various versions of Linux, UNIX and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It supports tapes, disks, optical media and changers.

REOBack (pronounced as ray-o-back), is a backup solution designed for Linux users/system admins. It supports scheduled full/incremental backups, remote transfers via NFS or FTP as well as auto-deletion of old backups.

namefix.pl is a cross-platform batch file renaming utility first released in 2006. It automates the cleanup of large sets of filenames using regular expressions and configurable rules. Features include handling of whitespace, punctuation, extensions, directory processing, safe overwrite checks, and dry-run mode. Both command-line and Tk GUI interfaces are provided. The project was created by Jacob Jarick and is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

This project has a lively SVN repository for build recipes, over 1000 F/OSS softwares are available. The tool "pkgbuild" is for building packages on Solaris 11/OpenIndiana from RPM-like spec files. The tool also runs on OmniOS. If you want, you can create new style IPS packages and old style SVR4 packages for Solaris 10. The tool is not updated frequently, but the following "build recipes" for pkgbuild is updated every day. For a few hundred build-recipes see the sub-project "spec-files-extra" or "SFE". We already have stacks of e.g. multimedia players mplyer/vlc or postfix/dovecot/cyrus-sasl/spamfiltering. But there is so much more to be added! Volunteers to the build-recipes are always welcome. The littleutils include duplicate file finders (repeats, repeats.pl, repeats.py), image optimizers (opt-jpg, opt-png, opt-gif, recomp-jpg), file rename tools (lowercase, uppercase, pren), archive recompressors (to-gzip, to-bzip2, to-bzip3, to-7zip, to-lzma, to-lzip, to-xz), a tempfile utility (tempname), file property tools (filedate, filemode, filenode, fileown, filesize, and lrealpath), and others. Renames files in a proper English title format: prepositions, conjunctions, and articles (<5 letters) are in lowercase unless they are the first or last word in the title; all others begin with uppercase. Can use id3v2 to tag mp3s using info in filename.

A simple GUI program that attempts to fully recover unopenable corrupt Open Office files or at least salvage the text.
