A suite of Python programs to produce simulated Illumina RNA-Seq reads with a high level of realism. The starting positions of the reads and the distributions of read errors and quality codes are all empirically derived from real RNA-Seq datasets. The suite includes Python scripts to prepare the empirical read creation probability and read error distribution tables, and to generate and postprocess the simulated reads. -

...For this purpose the stick needs a flat folder structure and be sorted alphabetically before copying. The small Qt4 dialog has a drop area where you can drag mp3s (from file manager or Amarok, perhaps also other programs) onto it and it will read the ID3 tags and create a sorted folder structure with "Artist - Album" and shows the number of tracks and size it would take. When you are ready filling the collection press OK to copy it. At the moment there aren't many options but I could put some more effort into it, when someone is intereste. -

Specificity Control for Read Alignments Using an Artificial Reference
We introduce ARDEN (Artificial Reference Driven Estimation of false positives in NGS data), a novel benchmark that estimates error rates based on real experimental reads and an additionally generated artificial reference genome. It allows the computation of error rates specifically for a dataset and the construction of a ROC-curve. Thereby, it can be used to optimize parameters for read mappers, to select read mappers for a specific problem or also to filter alignments based on quality estimation. -

Using PimSched, you can study vocabulary the easy way: while doing something else(e.g. playing a simple game like tetris, or while walking or biking). PimSched has espeak/mbrola read out words from a wordlist(vocabulary/translation seperated by '='), and then schedules the words according to the Pimsleur approach(5 seconds, 25 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes).
