We love macOS, but we’re not a fan of the ever-closing hardware and ecosystem. So we are creating ravynOS, an OS aimed to provide the finesse of macOS with the freedom of FreeBSD. This is a developer preview image that’s mainly intended for helping build the system. We recommend running in a virtual machine, although it should work on any hardware supported by FreeBSD-CURRENT (14.0) with at least 2GB (8GB recommended) RAM. -

While I may have started with Linux 0.11, I've expanded this to include several older relases of the Linux kernel that you can cross compile from Windows, and run on Qemu. I've managed to get the older versions of the software tools running on Windows, so that there is no major invasive source changes, outside of either broken drivers, or massaging the makefiles to find things in the new paths, and calling the appropriate tools where needed. Linux 0.10 is the first oldest version of Linux that is somewhat usable. While it lacks things like TCP/IP, and robust filesystems, it does offer a small kernel size, perfect for playing around with. ... -

Use an rtl2832 USB dongle to generate random data for the linux kernel
...This application exploits the radio noise in the atmosphere to extract entropy. The kernel already has a module to use the rtl2832 for its intended purpose, listening to radio, so if you want to use it to generate entropy, you will have to blacklist that module, so it doesn't load. If it is loaded, this program will not be able to acquire the rtl2832 device, and won't run. Create the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-dvb_usb_rtl28xxu.conf with the line blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu in it. Note: the project is basically dead, as I started rewriting it but I don't have much free time to work on it. It's basically a micro-kernel, but on top of that, instead of having multiple servers running as standalone processes, it has a modular kernel, so that each server is a module of this kernel. The micro-kernel contains only the scheduler, memory management and drivers for high-speed devices (like gigabit ethernet NICs or video cards).

...Checkout http://www.love2code.org UPDATE 18-Dec-2011 Updates haven't occurred for some time (April) due to working and studying for my Computer Science degree at the University of Ulster, but it's Christmas! so may be we'll get a little closer to doing some more work. I have been somewhat worried about the number of downloads taking place, so I must point out, in no way can this system be used (yet), it's an exploratory project and while it does have some graphics and other bits, only the code at the moment is useful for anyone. Feel free to look at the code (or run iso in VirtualBox) and feel free to join in.
