Dulwich
Pure-Python Git implementation
Dulwich is a Python implementation of the Git file formats and protocols, which does not depend on Git itself. All functionality is available in pure Python. Optional C extensions can be built for improved performance. Dulwich takes its name from the area in London where the friendly Mr. and Mrs. Git once attended a cocktail party. Supported Python versions are Python 3.5 and later. Versions of Dulwich prior to 0.20 also supported Python 2.7. Supported platforms include Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. Dulwich comes with both a lower-level API and higher-level plumbing ("porcelain"). By default, Dulwich' setup.py will attempt to build and install the optional C extensions. The reason for this is that they significantly improve the performance since some low-level operations that are executed often are much slower in CPython. -

git-quick-stats is a simple and efficient way to access various statistics in a git repository. Any git repository may contain tons of information about commits, contributors, and files. Extracting this information is not always trivial, mostly because there are a gadzillion options to a gadzillion git commands. For those who prefer to utilize command-line options, git-quick-stats also has a non-interactive mode supporting both short and long options. You can change to the legacy color scheme by toggling the variable _MENU_THEME between default and legacy. You can set variable _GIT_LIMIT for limited output. It will affect the "changelogs" and "branch tree" options. You can also exclude files from the stats. Note that it works with any alphanumeric, glob, or regex that git respects. -

This prompt is a port of the "Informative git prompt for zsh". A bash prompt that displays information about the current git repository. In particular the branch name, difference with remote branch, number of files staged, changed, etc. The advantage of this approach is, that you only need to specify the parts, that are different to the Default theme. You can set the GIT_PROMPT_SHOW_UNTRACKED_FILES variable to no or normal to speed things up if you have lots of untracked files in your repository. This can be the case for build systems that put their build artifacts in the subdirectory structure of the git repository. Setting it to all will count all untracked files, including files listed in .gitignore. The most settings are now stored in theme files. To select a theme, set the variable GIT_PROMPT_THEME to the name of the theme located in <INSTALLDIR>/themes without the extension .bgptheme. -

API wrappers should reflect the idioms of the language in which they were written. Octokit.rb wraps the GitHub API in a flat API client that follows Ruby conventions and requires little knowledge of REST. Most methods have positional arguments for required input and an options hash for optional parameters, headers, or other options. While most methods return a Resource object or a Boolean, sometimes you may need access to the raw HTTP response headers. Access tokens can be revoked, removing access for only that token without having to change your password everywhere. Access tokens have access scopes that allow for more granular access to API resources. For instance, you can grant a third party access to your gists but not your private repositories. Two-Factor Authentication brings added security to the account by requiring more information to login. -

It validates the outgoing changeset for things that look suspicious - such as potential SSH keys, authorization tokens, private keys etc. Talisman can also be used as a repository history scanner to detect secrets that have already been checked in, so that you can take an informed decision to safeguard secrets. We recommend installing Talisman as a pre-commit git hook template, as that will cause Talisman to be present, not only in your existing git repositories, but also in any new repository that you 'init' or 'clone'. Installation of Talisman globally does not clobber pre-existing hooks on repositories. If the installation script finds any existing hooks, it will only indicate so on the console. After the installation is successful, Talisman will run checks for obvious secrets automatically before each commit or push. -

Automatically Commit changed Files back to GitHub with GitHub Actions for the 80% use case. A GitHub Action to detect changed files during a Workflow run and to commit and push them back to the GitHub repository. By default, the commit is made in the name of "GitHub Actions" and co-authored by the user that made the last commit. Note that the Action has to be used in a Job that runs on a UNIX system (e.g. ubuntu-latest). If you don't use the default permission of the GITHUB_TOKEN, give the Job or Workflow at least the contents: write permission. The goal of this Action is to be "the Action for committing files for the 80% use case". Therefore, you might run into issues if your Workflow falls into the not supported 20% portion. If your Workflow can't push the commit to the repository because of authentication issues, please update your Workflow configuration. -

git-cola: The highly caffeinated Git GUI
Git Cola is a sleek and powerful graphical user interface for Git. Git Cola is free software and written in Python (v2 + v3). Git Cola uses QtPy, so you can choose between PyQt6, PyQt5 and PySide2 by setting the QT_API environment variable to pyqt6, pyqt5 or pyside2 as desired. qtpy defaults to pyqt6 and falls back to pyqt6 and pyside2 if pyqt5 is not installed. Git Cola enables additional features when the following Python modules are installed. send2trash enables cross-platform "Send to Trash" functionality. Never run pip install or make install as root or outside of a Python virtualenv! If you don't have PyQt installed then the easiest way to get it is to use a Python virtualenv and install Git Cola into it in "editable" mode.
