The Amazon GameLift Plugin for Unity contains libraries and native UI that makes it easier to access GameLift resources and integrate GameLift into your Unity game. You can use the GameLift Unity Plugin to access GameLift APIs and deploy AWS CloudFormation templates for common gaming scenarios. Auth Only, this scenario creates a game backend service that performs only player authentication and no game server capability. It creates a Cognito user pool to store player authentication information, as well as an API gateway REST endpoint backed up AWS Lambda handlers to start a game and view game connection information. The Lambda handler always returns a 501 Error (Unimplemented). Single-Region Fleet, this scenario creates a game backend service with a single GameLift fleet. After player authenticates and starts a game (with a POST request to /start_game), a AWS Lambda handler searches for an existing viable game session with an open player slot on the fleet. -

We (the folks at Very Good Ventures) teamed up with Google to bring an interactive experience to this year’s Google I/O: a photo booth! You can take pictures with well-known Google mascots: Flutter’s Dash, Android Jetpack, Chrome’s Dino, and Firebase’s Sparky, and decorate photos with stickers, including party hats, pizza, funky glasses, and more. Finally, you can share photos on social media and download them to update your profile picture for the event! We built the I/O Photo Booth using Flutter on the web and Firebase. Because Flutter now offers support for web apps, we thought it would be a great way to make this app easily accessible to attendees all over the world for this year’s virtual Google I/O. Flutter’s web support eliminates the barrier of having to install an app from an app store and also gives you the flexibility to run it on your device. -

Ice provides a birds-eye view of our large and complex cloud landscape from a usage and cost perspective. Cloud resources are dynamically provisioned by dozens of service teams within the organization and any static snapshot of resource allocation has limited value. The ability to trend usage patterns on a global scale, yet decompose them down to a region, availability zone, or service team provides incredible flexibility. Ice allows us to quantify our AWS footprint and to make educated decisions regarding reservation purchases and reallocation of resources. Ice is a Grails project. It consists of three parts: processor, reader, and UI. The processor processes the Amazon detailed billing file into data readable by the reader. The reader reads data generated by the processor and renders them to UI. UI queries the reader and renders interactive graphs and tables in the browser. -

Kubernetes External Secrets allows you to use external secret management systems, like AWS Secrets Manager or HashiCorp Vault, to securely add secrets in Kubernetes. The community and maintainers of this project and related Kubernetes secret management projects use the #external-secrets channel on the Kubernetes slack for discussion and brainstorming. The project extends the Kubernetes API by adding an ExternalSecrets object using Custom Resource Definition and a controller to implement the behavior of the object itself. An ExternalSecret declares how to fetch the secret data, while the controller converts all ExternalSecrets to Secrets. The conversion is completely transparent to Pods that can access Secrets normally. By default Secrets are not encrypted at rest and are open to attack, either via the etcd server or via backups of etcd data. -

Offline First Database Comparison
An implementation of the exact same app in Firestore, AWS Datastore
In this project I have implemented the exact same chat application with different database technologies. You can use it to compare metrics and learn about the differences. The chat app is a web-based angular application, with functionality similar to Whatsapp Web. All metrics are measured automatically via code in a browser test (chrome:headless). The results heavily depend on the developer's device. You should compare the values relative to one another and not as absolute values. Also, you might want to create new metrics that better represent how you would use the respective database. WatermelonDB and the RxDB-LokiJS project use the LokiJS database as storage, which is an in memory database that regularly persists the data to IndexedDB either on interval, or when the browser tab is closed. By doing so, less slow IndexedDB transaction are used. Keeping and processing the data in memory has the benefit of being much faster. -
