SoX is the Swiss Army Knife of sound processing utilities. It can convert audio files to other popular audio file types and also apply sound effects and filters during the conversion.

mp3splt is a free utility to split mp3, ogg vorbis and FLAC files without decoding, selecting begin/end time; if file is an album, you can get splitpoints automatically from internet or a local cue, cddb file. It also splits Mp3Wrap and AlbumWrap archives. Supports splitting and trimming by silence detection. For mp3 files, both ID3v1 and ID3v2 are supported using original tags or user defined tags.

A free sound editor, DarkAudacity is the well known Audacity sound editor now with a darker more modern theme - and a few small tweaks. The audio engine underneath is the same audio engine. The same code powers it. Like Audacity it is completely free. It's not a cut down trial evaluation version. PlayerPro is a music composer and sound editor ( SoundTracker ) for MOD S3M XM IT UMX . Uses XI, Quicktime or SoundFonts. Currently runs on MacOS and OSX; playback engines also available for Windows and BeOS. Upcoming version 6 will support ALSA (Linux).

ABC is a text-based music notation language. This project aims to promote the ABC music notation language by providing cross-platform, open-source tools for manipulating, displaying and playing (via MIDI) ABC files. This project is here for historic reasons and there is not too much activity now. The abcmidi project is updated more frequently.

Advanced GTK+ Sequencer is intended to use for music composition. It features a piano roll, as well a synth, matrix editor, drum machine, soundfont2 player, mixer and an output panel. It's designed to be highly configurable, you may add effects to its effect chain, add or remove audio channels/pads. You may set up a fully functional network of engines, therefore exists a link editor for linking audio lines. In conjunction with ags you need a realtime kernel and alsa support. `ags` uses conditional locks to keep several threads in sync that's why you need at least a preemptible kernel.

The SingIt Lyric Displayer is an XMMS plugin which displays formatted lyrics, including id3v2xx lyrics. It consists of the displayer and an integrated editor which allows one to easily insert time stamps, edit the text, and export & strip HTML.
