The Porpoise Locating Array Buoy (PLA-Buoy) is an autonomous marine sensor platform which uses multiple hydrophones to triangulate the position of vocalising harbour porpoises underwater. The buoy consists of a cRio controller which continuously records between 4-12 channels of acoustic data, sampled at 500kS/s. The data is saved to an external hard drive, either as .wav files or compressed X3 files. Serial data, e.g. a GPS can also be saved. ...As an avid handloader and shooter, I got tired of always having to manually transcribe my chronograph readings, then re-enter them into Excel to perform the calculations. At first, I built a serial cable so I could at least collect the data without writing. Now I have finally taken the time to sit down and bang out the code necessary to not only save the data, but to perform and display the real-time statistics. I hope you find this as useful as I have.
