This project concerns the design and implementation of an open-source flocking boids simulator, designed as a tool to analyze and characterize flock-like collective emerging behaviors. Each boid is conceived as an active agent and modelled by a point-mass approximation. Boid movements in a 3D space are guided by a set of elementary steering behaviors, each implemented as a force acting on the boid's point mass.

This program modelizes the very beautiful flocking motion. Environment constants and boid algorithms can be changed and reimplemented to experiment and understand the control of the whole flock. Don't be afraid, keep in mind the three rules: Separation, Alignment and Cohesion, and you'll get beautiful patterns in movement.

...The FLOW distribution consists of five files: 1. FLOW2D.zip is the 2D simulator and related files. 2. FLOW2DVis.zip contains the viewer for the 2D simulator and related files. 3. FLOW3D.zip contains the 3D simulator and related files. 4. FLOW2DQuickStart.pdf is the QuickStart file. 5. Readme.txt (this file) FLOW has been tested and works on Windows (XP, 7, 8) with Matlab 2009b or higher. It should also work on Windows with earlier Matlab versions but we have not tested this.

This is a simulator of human self-organized walkers who use local rules to develop flocking and other (hopefully) interesting behaviors. "Flocking" is here used in the sense of Boids-creator Craig Reynolds. A 3d visualization is used to present these behaviors. The main program (computation and visualization) has been written in the DarkBasic language.
