By Community Team

On this day in 1963 electronic push-button telephones were first introduced to customers in Carnegie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Push-button phones had buttons on them to dial phone numbers and connect telephone users, and became a popular alternative to rotary phones which it eventually replaced. Dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) or Touch-Tone was also introduced at this time to accommodate the new push-button phones.
