Today in Tech – 2005

On this day in 2005 web services company Yahoo! acquired the company Ludicorp and its popular photo-sharing site Flickr. While not many details were released about the acquisition, it was reported to have cost between $22 to $25 million. By June of 2005 all of Ludicorp’s data was migrated to Yahoo! servers, moving them from Vancouver, Canada to the U.S. This made the resulting data subject to United States federal law.

By May of 2007, Yahoo! announced that it would close down Yahoo! Photos, and that all photos would be deleted. All users were encouraged to migrate to Flickr.
