On this day in 1990 Intel Corporation co-founder and co-inventor of the semiconductor, Robert Noyce passed away of a heart attack at the age of 62. Noyce was an American physicist who, with Jack Kilby, shares the credit for creating the integrated circuit which dramatically increased computing power. Unlike Kilby’s integrated circuit however, Noyce’s monolithic integrated circuit was more practical in design and could be mass-produced.
Noyce co-founded the influential Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation in 1957, before moving on to establish Intel Corporation alongside Gordon Moore in 1968.
