Today in Tech – 1994

By Community Team

On this day in 1994 the FreeDOS project was first announced. Then named “PD-DOS”, the project was spearheaded by technologist and open source software advocate Jim Hall, who continues to play an active role in the project. FreeDOS is a free and open source DOS-compatible operating system that can be used to play classic DOS games, run legacy business software, or develop embedded systems. SourceForge currently hosts the FreeDOS project wiki, source code and bug trackers, and FreeDOS remains a featured Staff Pick project on our homepage. Happy 25th anniversary to the FreeDOS project!
