Today in Tech – 1996

By Community Team

On this day in 1996 the first version of the Java programming language was released. Java was developed by Canadian computer scientist James Gosling and his team at Sun Microsystems. It was originally designed for interactive television, but later shifted for use on the internet. Its ability to “write once, run anywhere” made it an ideal programming language for internet-based applications, and as of 2016 it is one of the most popular programming languages in use.
