On this day in 1959 American electrical engineer Jack Kilby filed a patent application for his invention, “Miniaturized Electronic Circuits”, the first integrated circuit ever made. Kilby was working at Texas Instruments at the time when he came up with a solution to the problem of circuit design. A few months later, American physicist Robert Noyce made a similar, more practical circuit, and he and Kilby are credited as co-inventors of the integrated circuit.
