On this day in 1994 Jim Clark and Marc Andreessen founded Netscape. Initially named Mosaic Communications Corporation, they later renamed their company Netscape Communications Corp. It was the first company to attempt to capitalize on the nascent World Wide Web. Their first product, the web browser Mosaic Netscape 0.9 quickly became the leading browser of its time, taking three-quarters of the browser market just four months after its first release. Andreessen developed the web browsing software while working at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois. Shortly after its release it was renamed Netscape Navigator.

In 1994, who would have thought that in 2018, Internet would be such an asset and a real danger ?
