Today in Tech – 1949

By Community Team

On this day in 1949, former IBM president Thomas J. Watson Jr. predicted in a sales meeting that all moving parts in machines would be replaced by electronics within 10 years. Watson was then the Executive Vice-President of IBM, and became president just 3 years later. His visionary ideals were instrumental in bringing the company to dominance in the production of all kinds of computers, from PCs to workstations.

Dears, I thank you for your effort to bring us culture in this interesting form that is history. I’ve been working with computers since the time of the IBM360 and it’s admirable the prediction of Mr. Thomas, but no one could predict that a “mainframe” of this era would become insufficient to control a printer today, isn’t it? Greetings.
