For our September “Community Choice” Project of the Month, the community elected Tcl, the Tool Command Language implementation.
Tcl is a very powerful, high-level but easy to learn dynamic programming language, suitable for a broad variety of uses: web and desktop applications, network programming, embedded development, system administration, testing and many more. Open source and business-friendly, Tcl is a mature yet evolving language that is truly cross-platform, easily deployed and highly extensible.
Tcl has been widely-used since its creation in 1988 by John Ousterhout, and has been called “the best-kept secret in the software industry”. It was previously selected as the “Staff Pick” Project of the Month in December 2016. With its vibrant community and rapid development, there’s no doubt Tcl will continue to grow in usage and popularity.
