There is a new resource available for Python devs– PET: Python Entre Todos. It is free to read, available in English and Spanish, and best of all, a result of the collaborative efforts by an open source community, PyAr (Python Argentina).
They have just released the first issue of this magazine, and it is available in ePub, Mobi, FB2, HTML or PDF formats under a CC license. Using all open source tools, the organizers were able to pool resources to create a resource written by programmers, for programmers. Much effort, coordination, and collaboration went into the publishing of this magazine, and the effort has paid off. The articles are well written, timely, and technical in nature (for the most part). Even the stories behind the PyAr group and the magazine itself are interesting and worth the read. Each issue will also include a programming challenge for those of us who like that sort of thing.
The first issue includes these topics:
* PET First Shot
* How you can help PET
* PyAr, The History
* from gc import commonsense – Finish Him!
* Painless Concurrency: The multiprocessing Module
* Introduction to Unit Testing with Python
* Taint Mode in Python
* Applied Dynamism
* Decorating code (Part 1)
* Web2Py for Everybody
* How is this magazine made?
* PET Challenge
* A Bit of xkcd
It is exciting to see this new initiative by an open source community, and it would be great to see other communities follow suit.
If you want to help the PET effort, you can donate money or your time, and if you want to keep up with each new issue, you can follow their blog, or find them on Twitter and identi.ca.
