Yesterday we launched our new ActivityStreams feature on SourceForge.net. ActivityStreams are continuous timelines of project and user activity happening on SourceForge.
Project and User Timelines
Recent project activity is displayed on the bottom right of the main project summary page (click “See All Activities” to see the project’s full activity timeline). Each component of an activity is hyperlinked so you can click through for more detail.
Clicking on a user takes you to the user’s profile page, which now includes a preview of recent activity by that user. Click “View All” to see the full activity timeline for that user.
Following Project and Users
All timelines have a “star” icon in the upper right. Click the star to follow (or unfollow) a project or user. When you view your own timeline, you’ll see not only your own activities, but also the activities of all projects and users that you are following. By following projects and users, all the activity you’re interested in will be collected into a single, personalized timeline.
Each timeline also includes an RSS feed, allowing you to subscribe to timeline updates with your RSS reader.
Permission Filtering
All timelines are permission-filtered for the viewer. So for example, if a user doesn’t have access to view a particular ticket, that user will also not see any activities that involve that ticket.
As of this initial launch, timelines include the most common site activities: repo commits, ticket updates, wiki updates, blog updates, forum posts, comments, and file releases. The code that powers ActivityStreams is open source and available on SourceForge here: http://sf.net/p/activitystream
We hope you find ActivityStreams a useful addition to SourceForge!
Welcome to the world of tomorrow!
