June 2019, “Community Choice” Project of the Month – MiRoom

For our June 2019 “Community Choice” Project of the Month, the community elected MiRoom, MIUI modifications with multi language capability based on clean Chinese ROMs. Chief Administrator Ilya Drif (DriffeX) shared some thoughts about the project’s history, purpose, and direction.

SourceForge (SF): Tell me about the MiRoom project please. What made you start this?
DriffeX: We created a project with modified MIUI MiRoom due to the boundless love of Xiaomi and MIUI world. We started building the first custom MIUI ROM about 7 years ago for ex-projects such as KDev Group and MIUI Russia. We really appreciate all the Mi fans.

SF: Has the original vision been achieved?
DriffeX: Definitely. And even more.

SF: Who can benefit the most from your project?
DriffeX: All Mi Phone users.

SF: What core need does MiRoom fulfill?
DriffeX: MIUI MiRoom allows Mi Fans to use their Mi phones with enhanced functionality and high stability.

SF: What’s the best way to get the most out of using MiRoom?
DriffeX: For the best experience using MIUI MiRoom, you must follow all instructions and recommendations from our website.

SF: What has your project team done to help build and nurture your community?
DriffeX: We have created a special media portal for Mi fans, where we publish MIUI and Xiaomi news, as well as various useful files and modifications.

SF: Have you found that more frequent releases helps build up your community of users?
DriffeX: We think yes. Weekly releases allow to attract more users. Some would call it an addiction.

SF: What was the first big thing that happened for your project?
DriffeX: Positive feedback from users.

SF: What helped make that happen?
DriffeX: Invaluable support from users, each team member and our friends from MiuiPro project. And of course SourceForge.

SF: How has SourceForge and its tools helped your project reach that success?
DriffeX: We use SourceForge as the main storage for MIUI MiRoom ROMs due to usability, speed and stability. We are very grateful for your service.

SF: What is the next big thing for MiRoom?
DriffeX: Maybe OTA updates.

SF: How long do you think that will take?
DriffeX: It is more dependent not on time, but on resources.

SF: Do you have the resources you need to make that happen?
DriffeX: There are no resources to implement full-quality OTA updates. But now [we’ve got] other priorities.

SF: If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently for MiRoom?
DriffeX: Maybe nothing. MiRoom is not our first project with modified MIUI ROMs, so we tried to take into account all errors when launching this project. The current result suits us.

SF: Is there anything else we should know?
DriffeX: Also we have a chain of MiRoom stores in Russia, which specializes in Xiaomi products 😉
