For our December “Community Choice” Project of the Month, the community elected Free Pascal Compiler, a free 32/64/16-bit multi-platform Pascal and Object Pascal compiler.
Free Pascal is a 32, 64 and 16 bit professional Pascal compiler that can target many processor architectures: Intel x86 (including 8086), AMD64/x86-64, PowerPC, PowerPC64, SPARC, ARM, AArch64, MIPS and the JVM. It supports Linux, FreeBSD, Haiku, Mac OS X/iOS/iPhoneSimulator/Darwin, DOS (16 and 32 bit), Win32, Win64, WinCE, OS/2, MorphOS, Nintendo GBA, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Android, AIX and AROS. Additionally, support for the Motorola 68k architecture is available in the development versions.
Free Pascal has been around for 25 years, and yet it is still widely used and beloved by many. Here is what one voter had to say:
It is one of the best open sourced compilers out there, not only for Pascal but for any language. It has a great community too. ~Guillermo Martínez Jiménez
Free Pascal Compiler was previously voted “Community Choice” Project of the Month in May of 2017 and “Community Choice” Project of the Month in April of 2014, where project founder Florian Klämpfl spoke about the project’s developments and direction. With its current performance and ongoing development we’re certain that Free Pascal will continue to be a popular and successful open source project well into the future.
