For our August “Staff Pick” Project of the Month, we selected Octave Forge, a collection of packages providing extra functionality for GNU Octave.
Octave Forge expands Octave’s core functionality by providing field specific features via Octave’s package system. GNU Octave is a high-level interpreted language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides capabilities for the numerical solution of linear and nonlinear problems, and for performing other numerical experiments. It also provides extensive graphics capabilities for data visualization and manipulation.
Octave is normally used through its interactive command line interface, but it can also be used to write non-interactive programs. The Octave language is quite similar to Matlab so that most programs are easily portable.
Octave Forge features image and signal processing, fuzzy logic, instrument control, parallel computing, statistics and many others. You can view its full list of packages here.
Octave Forge was previously elected “Community Choice” Project of the Month in July 2015, and chosen as “Staff Pick” Project of the Month in October 2017, where the Octave Forge team spoke about the project’s developments and direction.
