Today in Tech – 1945

By Community Team

On this day in 1945 the first conference on Digital Computer Technique was held at MIT. Sponsored by the National Research Council, Subcommittee Z on Calculating Machines and Computation, it was attended by the Whirlwind team. This was the team responsible for developing the Whirlwind, one of the first ever digital electronic computers that operated in real-time and calculate in parallel, rather than serial. This team included project head Jay Forrester and collaborator Robert Everett.
