By Community Team

On this day in 1950 AT&T Bell Laboratories researchers John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley were issued a US patent for their invention of the transistor. The three researchers had successfully tested the first of these transistors two years earlier. From then on the transistor completely revolutionized the development of electronic and computerized technology, paving the way for other remarkable inventions such as microprocessors, semiconductors and integrated circuits commonly found in modern computers.

  1. Thank electrons these fellows had their chips together and invented this revolutionary device. Probably the greatest invention, and the one with the most impact on human society, in the 20th century.
I have read Science Fiction since being a child. Thanks to these fellows, I am now living in a world that was predicted by the stories I read long ago.
