WinRAP — a compact privacy utility
WinRAP is a small Windows utility that lets you hide running applications to help protect your privacy. It removes program icons from the taskbar and the system tray so others won’t see them while you’re using your PC. Note that hiding apps with WinRAP does not remove their entries from the Windows Task Manager.
No setup required
Because WinRAP is portable, you do not need to install anything. Download the ZIP archive, extract its contents, and launch the executable — that’s all.
Using the program
- Open WinRAP and locate the list of currently active applications.
- Choose an app from the active list and click the Hide button to move it to the hidden list.
- To restore visibility, select the app from the hidden list and click Unhide.
What the interface looks like
WinRAP presents two simple panes: one showing running programs and another showing the ones you’ve hidden. The controls are straightforward, making the tool easy to operate even for casual users.
Limitations and notes
- Hidden programs remain active; they’re just concealed from the taskbar and tray.
- They can still be observed in Task Manager or by other system-monitoring tools.
- Reasonably useful for basic privacy needs, but not a security solution against determined inspection.
