Overview of the VIVE mobile companion
VIVE is a free companion application designed to work with HTC’s standalone headset, the VIVE Focus. Its main purpose is to relay important phone alerts into your virtual environment so you can stay immersed without missing calls, messages, or calendar reminders. Notifications sent to the headset are also stored on the Vive tab in the system dashboard for later review.
Core capabilities
- Calendar alerts are pushed into VR so you don’t miss scheduled events.
- Incoming calls and missed-call alerts appear inside the headset, with quick-return options.
- Text messages are visible and you can send short replies without removing the headset.
- Phone notifications from other apps are forwarded to the device so you remain aware of important updates.
Linking your phone to the VIVE Focus
Follow these steps to pair your phone with the headset:
- On the VIVE Focus, open Settings and enable Phone Notifications.
- On your smartphone, launch the VIVE app.
- Select the VIVE Focus entry inside the mobile app and enable Bluetooth when prompted.
- Ensure the headset and phone are on the same stable Wi‑Fi network for reliable notification delivery.
Once paired, you won’t have to take off the headset each time a notification arrives — Bluetooth handles the connection while Wi‑Fi helps ensure updates are delivered promptly.
What this app does not provide
- Remote control of headset functions: the companion app is built to forward notifications, not to operate the VIVE Focus remotely.
- A storefront or library of VR experiences: unlike VIVEPORT, this app does not offer a catalog of virtual content.
- Extensive personalization: there are few options for customizing notification behavior or appearance beyond basic on/off settings.
Practical notes and limitations
VIVE is simple and functional for its intended role: keeping you informed while immersed in VR. It excels at relaying messages and calls and enables basic responses from within the headset. However, users looking for deep customization, an app marketplace, or full remote-control capabilities will find the app’s feature set limited.
