Mobile release overview
Feral Interactive has brought the 2006 strategy classic Total War: MEDIEVAL II to smartphones and tablets. This mobile edition aims to preserve the core gameplay and scope of the original PC release while adapting controls and interfaces for touchscreens. The studio describes the port as faithful to the source material, with changes focused on usability rather than content.
How the touch controls work
The development team redesigned the user interface so commanders can manage units easily on smaller displays. The touch scheme is intended to let you direct large groups — knights, archers, and infantry — without losing the finer tactical control the series is known for. Controls have been refined with lessons learned from the studio’s Rome release to streamline unit selection, formation changes, and issuing orders during battles.
Campaign and battle experience
Set between roughly 1080 and 1530, the campaign retains the medieval-era grand strategy loop: lead a faction, expand influence, and fight rival powers. Tactical battles remain a key focus, blending turn-based strategic movement on the campaign map with real-time battlefield encounters. Settlement management and campaign systems have been upgraded in this port to allow more strategic choices than earlier mobile adaptations.
Important technical and content notes
- Expect fewer playable factions than in the original PC edition, so the political variety is reduced compared with the 2006 game.
- The app requires around 4.38 GB of free storage to install and run reliably, and it supports only a limited set of device models.
- Older or low-performance phones may be prevented from purchasing or running the game to ensure a smooth experience on supported hardware.
Should you pick it up?
If you’re a Total War veteran or enjoy deep historical strategy, this mobile version is worth considering — it brings the series’ large-scale battles and strategic layer to a portable format. Before buying, make sure you have a modern device with sufficient free space and that your model is listed as supported; otherwise the game may be unavailable or perform poorly.
