Product snapshot
Stellar Repair for Video is a trial-available application from Stellar Information Technology Pvt. Ltd. (previously marketed as Stellar Phoenix Video Repair) built to fix damaged or corrupted video files. It claims to use non-destructive repair methods to restore clips while preserving the original file data and ships in several one-time-purchase editions tailored to different needs.
Supported sources and file containers
The utility recognizes media from a variety of capture devices and storage locations — for example, DSLR cameras, smartphones, action cams, and memory cards — and works with many common container formats, including:
- AVI
- MP4
- MOV
- and other popular containers
Codecs and technical compatibility
Stellar Repair for Video supports a broad array of codecs, enabling it to handle files encoded in different ways. Examples of supported codecs are:
- MPEG-4 (and related variants)
- H.265 / HEVC
- H.264
- H.263
- plus several additional codec types
Basic workflow — repair in a few steps
Repairing a file is straightforward:
- Drag files into the interface or click the Add Videos button to select them
- Run the repair process (batch processing of multiple clips is supported)
- Preview the repaired result before choosing to save it
The preview step helps confirm the repair quality prior to writing out a new file.
Advanced recovery options
For severely damaged files, the software provides an Advanced Repair mode that uses a reference (working) file recorded on the same device and in the same format to guide the reconstruction. This option improves success rates with complex corruption and can often restore files that won’t play in common players such as VLC, QuickTime, or Windows Media Player.
Higher-tier editions add extra capabilities, including photo repairs and, in the top-level package, the ability to attempt recovery of deleted media files.
Performance considerations and limits
Processing time varies with several factors:
- size and duration of the video
- degree of corruption
- the performance of your computer’s CPU, disk, and memory
Keep in mind that the most severe damage may still be difficult or impossible to fully correct, and slower hardware will lengthen repair times.
Alternative option
If you want a free, simple alternative for basic issues, VLC media player can sometimes rebuild broken indexes or play partially damaged files. It’s not a dedicated repair tool, however, so it won’t match dedicated repair utilities for more complex corruption.
Bottom line
If you have important clips that won’t play due to corruption, Stellar Repair for Video is a user-friendly option to try: it supports many formats and codecs, offers batch processing and previews, and includes an advanced repair mode for tougher cases. Give the trial a run to evaluate whether it recovers your damaged files.
