Quick overview
Sonic Dash — Endless Running is SEGA’s free, behind-the-back runner that stars Sonic and many faces from his universe. The gameplay follows the familiar endless-runner template (think Temple Run or Subway Surfers): Sonic races forward automatically while you swipe to dodge hazards, grab rings and activate boosts, all with the aim of topping your single-run score and climbing leaderboards.
How movement and controls work
The game relies entirely on touch gestures; there’s no tilt steering.
- Swipe up to leap over gaps and obstacles.
- Swipe right to shift lanes or avoid hazards on Sonic’s right.
- Swipe left to slide into the left lane when needed.
- Swipe down to roll beneath barriers and to take out small enemies on the track.
These gestures are generally responsive, and rolling not only clears low obstacles but can also knock out creatures such as trackside crabs.
Rings, Dash meter and power-ups
Collecting gold rings serves both as a score resource and as a way to build up special abilities.
- Shields can protect Sonic from a single hit and help preserve momentum.
- Magnet power-ups pull nearby rings toward Sonic for easier collecting.
- When the Dash Meter is full from gathering rings, trigger Dash to surge forward at high speed, bulldozing foes and obstacles.
Other temporary bonuses and multipliers appear throughout runs to boost your chance of a high-scoring effort.
Aerial moments and boss battles
At the end of certain track segments Sonic pauses mid-air and arrow prompts appear. Swiping in the shown directions performs stylish aerial poses and determines where he lands—this brief sequence breaks up the running flow and adds variety.
Boss encounters are another highlight. Facing foes like Dr. Eggman and other villains requires you to dodge ground hazards they deploy and to time mid-air attacks precisely in order to damage them.
Characters, currencies and the in-game shop
The Store mixes limited-time deals, multiple virtual currencies and unlockable characters.
- Premium skins such as Metal Sonic, Popstar Amy and Sir Lancelot can be purchased with real money.
- Playable favorites like Cream, Rouge, Blaze and Silver are tied to red star rings, a separate in-game currency.
- Red star rings can be earned by interacting with advertised apps, bought directly, or obtained through other in-game promotions.
The shop is where collectibles, boosters and alternate character costumes are offered, which can change gameplay variety or simply alter appearance.
Related release: Sonic Prime Dash
A Netflix-linked successor, Sonic Prime Dash, launched on July 13, 2023 to tie in with the second season of Sonic Prime. It keeps similar running mechanics and introduces Sonic Prime-themed outfits. The Netflix version is free to download for subscribers and is advertised as an experience without ads or microtransactions.
Final impression
For Sonic fans, Sonic Dash — Endless Running delivers an enjoyable, competitive runner with franchise flavor. While it doesn’t include tilt controls, its touch gestures are tight and the addition of boss fights, aerial sequences and a roster of characters help keep runs from feeling repetitive.
