Quickly identify any song playing around you
Ever hear a track on the radio, at a party, or on TV and wish you knew its title? Install Shazam on your PC and you can identify tunes in seconds. Just let the app listen and it will return the song title, artist, and album information almost immediately.
Using Shazam on your computer
To tag a track, hold your computer’s microphone near the speaker and press the Tag Now (or equivalent) control. The app captures a short audio sample, sends a compact audio fingerprint over the internet, and compares it to a very large music catalog. When it finds a match, Shazam displays the song details and offers ways to share or save the result.
Playback and purchase options
- Google Play Music and the Google Play Store for listening or buying tracks
- Rdio for streaming (where available)
- Spotify for full-track playback and integration
Organizing what you discover
- Your searches are saved in a history area so you can revisit any song later
- When you link a Spotify account, a playlist containing the songs you’ve identified is created automatically, giving you an easy record of all your finds
Extra info Shazam can provide
- Lyrics and links to related videos and performances
- Artist pages and additional background for many matches
Usability and accuracy
Shazam’s interface is straightforward and fast. It won’t recognize every single recording, but it successfully identifies the majority of tracks in casual listening tests. Results typically appear within a few seconds, making it a convenient tool for capturing music you want to remember.
Recent updates
The latest release includes visual and layout improvements to the app’s news feed so it’s easier to follow artists you’ve tagged. The feed also highlights friends’ activity more clearly, letting you see what others are discovering and sharing.
