ROME: Total War – Alexander comes to phones and tablets
ROME: Total War – Alexander, the second expansion to the original ROME: Total War (the other being Barbarian Invasion), has been ported from its 2006 Microsoft Windows release to iOS and Android. This mobile edition follows the earlier mobile release of the base ROME: Total War title. The core visuals, soundtrack and game systems remain true to the PC original, while the user interface has been redesigned to work smoothly on touchscreens.
The port has been refined and optimized for handheld play, preserving the original experience but making controls and layouts more convenient for smaller displays.
Campaign focus: Alexander’s march
This expansion covers an earlier historical period than the standard ROME campaigns, centering on the career of Alexander the Great. Players must combine diplomatic skill and battlefield command to unify Greek city-states and press eastward against the Persian Empire. Success requires both political maneuvering and tactical acumen as you try to forge an empire worthy of Alexander’s name.
Recreate pivotal clashes
- Battle of the Granicus — Alexander’s first major engagement against Persian forces in Asia Minor, a decisive opening strike that set the tone for his campaign.
- Battle of Gaugamela — The climactic encounter that showcased Alexander’s operational brilliance and effectively broke Persian resistance.
- Battle of Chaeronea — A formative early victory that helped secure Macedonian dominance in Greece before the eastern expedition.
Port quality and who it’s for
In gameplay, presentation and audio, this release remains a faithful adaptation of the original expansion. The most noticeable updates are interface adjustments and overall polish for mobile performance. Longtime fans of the Total War franchise will likely welcome having Alexander’s campaign in their pocket, while those who were never convinced by the series won’t find this edition fundamentally different. Nonetheless, it’s a strong pick for players interested in historical strategy and tactical battles.
