Snapshot tool at a glance
LightShot is a compact screenshot utility that also offers browser extensions. It aims for simplicity: replace your system’s default screenshot behavior and make taking and sharing captures quick and easy.
How captures work
The app provides two capture choices: grab the entire display or select a custom region with the cursor. After taking a screenshot, a small control strip appears along the bottom of the image to let you decide what to do next.
Post-capture actions
- Open the image in LightShot’s online editor for adjustments and enhancements.
- Upload the capture to a complimentary online storage service for fast sharing.
- Copy the image straight to the clipboard for immediate pasting into other apps.
- Save the file locally to your hard drive.
- Abort the capture without saving.
Editing features available
The web-based editor bundled with LightShot offers more than basic tools. You can crop and rotate images, work with additional layers, and apply filters and visual effects. When you finish editing, exports are available in common formats such as PNG, JPG and BMP.
Strengths and limitations
LightShot’s strengths are its ease of use, quick sharing options and a surprisingly capable online editor. Its main shortcoming is a limited set of capture modes — only full-screen and manually selected regions are supported — so users who need advanced capture types may find it restrictive.
