Quick summary
Kast, developed by Evasyst, is a desktop and mobile app for shared viewing. It lets groups — reportedly over a hundred participants — watch movies, TV shows, or play games together while using built-in communication tools.
What the app provides
Kast includes several ways to interact during a session:
- Video chat for face-to-face interaction.
- Text chat for messages and links.
- Voice channels for live audio.
- Screen sharing to stream content from a host’s device.
Interface and locating sessions
The app opens to a dark-themed, streamlined interface designed around group viewing. From the main screen you can quickly see active viewing sessions and tap one to join. Selecting a session reveals the hosts/moderators, current members, and who is watching right now. Sessions you’ve joined appear under the “My Parties” section in the app.
Joining, inviting, and creating parties
Joining an existing session is as simple as selecting it from the homepage. To manage invitations or start your own:
- To invite others: copy and share a link, search your friends, or pick from suggested users shown by the app.
- Private groups are created automatically when you sign up; only invited participants can enter those rooms.
- To host: choose Create Party, then configure the settings.
When creating a new party you can customize several attributes:
- Set the privacy level (Public or Private).
- Choose the session language and add relevant tags.
- Add a short description for guests.
- Upload a header image and pick a name for the party.
Performance and reliability concerns
Despite its feature set, Kast currently has significant stability and playback issues. Common problems reported include:
- Many audio and video streams failing to work at all.
- Intermittent streams that experience choppy playback.
- Low-resolution output when video does play.
Recommendation
Given the ongoing playback and reliability problems, Kast may not deliver a consistent viewing experience. If you need dependable group streaming, consider evaluating alternative applications until these issues are resolved.
