Snapshot — what Kast is
Kast is a video-sharing app from Evasyst available for desktop and mobile that lets groups watch movies, shows, or games together. It supports large gatherings—claiming support for more than a hundred participants—and combines shared video with real-time communication so people can react and chat while they watch.
Core capabilities
- Video chat alongside shared content for face-to-face reactions.
- Screen sharing so any participant can stream an app or media from their desktop.
- Inline text messaging for typed conversation during a session.
- Voice chat to discuss and coordinate while watching.
How to join a viewing session or host one
When you open Kast, the dark-themed interface immediately highlights current active viewing rooms you can join. Selecting a room shows moderators, attendees, and who’s currently watching. Rooms you’ve taken part in appear under the My Parties area.
To invite people to your private room, open the group that was automatically created at sign-up and use the Invite option. You can search for friends, pick from suggested users, or copy a sharable link. Private rooms are invite-only, so uninvited users cannot enter.
Setting up your own viewing room
Creating a new room is straightforward: choose Create Party and then configure the details. You can adjust the room’s privacy (private or public) and set the visible information people see before joining.
Customizable fields include:
- Privacy level (public or private)
- Room title or name
- Short description explaining the session
- Language for the room
- Tags to help others discover the session
- Header image to personalize the room’s appearance
Performance, limitations, and recommendation
Kast offers useful features, but in practice it often falls short. Many users report unreliable audio/video streams, intermittent playback, choppy streaming, and low resolution. Given these stability and quality problems, Kast may not meet expectations for a smooth group viewing experience. If dependable playback and clear audio/video are important to you, consider trying other services.
