Game snapshot
I.G.I. Origins was presented as a first-person stealth shooter that would follow Michael King — known as Regent — an ex-SAS operator now working for MI6. The design emphasized careful infiltration, executing covert tasks, and surviving tense firefights when stealth failed, aiming for a slower, more deliberate pace than run-and-gun shooters.
What the gameplay focused on
- Mission structure built around reconnaissance, route selection, and risk management rather than nonstop combat.
- Emphasis on choosing your approach: silent takedowns, bypassing enemies, or planned engagements when necessary.
- A methodical feel intended to reward scouting and tactical decision-making over reflexive shooting.
- Objectives designed to allow multiple solutions and flexible execution.
Setting and tone
Set in 1980 at the height of Cold War tensions, the project leaned into high-stakes espionage with grounded, spy-centric storytelling instead of cinematic action set pieces. The atmosphere and mission design were meant to appeal to players who prefer stealth planning and mission-based objectives over constant firefights.
Project outcome and final thoughts
Although the concept looked like a promising revival of a classic tactical franchise, Antimatter Games closed in 2023 and the project was canceled. As a result, I.G.I. Origins remains an intriguing, unrealized idea — particularly interesting to fans of methodical stealth, Cold War narratives, and mission-driven shooters, but ultimately something that never reached players.
