Cost-free document security scanner

FOCA is an open-source toolkit that helps you check websites for exposed or problematic documents. It’s suitable for both individual users and organizations who want a straightforward way to detect files that might leak metadata or exhibit errors.

What it inspects

The tool performs basic metadata extraction and quick checks to reveal whether documents hosted on a site are malformed, contain hidden information, or otherwise raise security or privacy concerns. Its workflow is light-weight, so it’s useful for routine checks as well as ad-hoc investigations.

File types it can analyze

  • SVG images and vector files
  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt / .pptx)
  • Microsoft Word documents (.doc / .docx)
  • OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods)
  • OpenDocument text files (.odt)

How results are presented

Findings are gathered into clear, easy-to-navigate reports that highlight issues and make it simple to review any risks discovered. This organized output speeds up identification and remediation of problematic documents.
