Real-time desktop alerts for Facebook messaging
A Google Chrome add-on can notify you instantly when new Facebook messages arrive. These alerts appear on your desktop as small pop-up dialogs that identify who sent the message and give a quick preview.
Appearance and behavior of the pop-ups
The notifications show the sender’s name and a brief snippet of the message in a dialog-style popup on your screen. They’re designed to be noticeable without interrupting what you’re doing.
When notifications are delivered
You’ll receive an alert whenever someone initiates a chat or sends a message on Facebook — even if the browser window is not in the foreground. (Note: to receive alerts while Chrome is fully closed, background app permissions may need to be enabled.)
Suggested alternatives and options
- Facebook SDK for Android — free: use the official SDK to integrate push messaging into an Android app for native notifications.
- Messenger mobile app: install the dedicated Messenger application to get built-in push notifications on phones and tablets.
- Browser push services: enable standard web push notifications or use a different Chrome extension that supports background delivery.
