Quick introduction to Erockus Arcade
Erockus Arcade is a lightweight frontend created to make working with the MAME arcade emulator simpler and more user-friendly. It organizes and presents controls and game launching options, but it does not ship with the MAME program itself or any game ROMs — those components must be downloaded separately from other sources.
Required components
- The MAME executable (you must provide the emulator binary yourself)
- Any game ROMs you want to play (acquired from third-party sources)
- Optional: BIOS or system files for specific titles, if a given game requires them
Free alternative to consider
GameLoop is a free option you might try if you want another way to run arcade-style games. It’s commonly suggested as an alternative for users who prefer a different setup or bundled experience.
Initial setup (first run)
When you start Erockus Arcade for the first time, the program asks you to point it at the folder where your MAME executable lives. The configuration step is quick — it typically takes only a few seconds to select the correct directory and let the frontend recognize the emulator.
Interface and how to interact
The frontend displays a simple on-screen control cluster: a directional pad and colored action buttons that resemble arcade controls. Interaction is direct — click the on-screen buttons to trigger the corresponding inputs while using the frontend.
