Quick summary

DNS Angel is a small, portable utility that replaces your current DNS servers with family-friendly alternatives to help prevent access to websites unsuitable for children. It’s lightweight, simple to run, and doesn’t require installation.

How it operates

The program changes the DNS addresses your computer uses so that web requests are resolved by a filtering provider instead of your Internet service. This redirects attempts to reach unsafe or adult-oriented pages to blocked or safe results, providing a basic layer of content control.

Family-oriented DNS options

  • MetaCert DNS — a DNS service that focuses on blocking malicious and inappropriate web content.
  • OpenDNS FamilyShield — preconfigured filters intended to block adult material and other categories often considered unsuitable for minors.
  • Norton ConnectSafe — a security-focused DNS option that can restrict access to potentially harmful or inappropriate sites.

Ease of use and restoring normal settings

DNS Angel runs without being installed; simply launch the program and pick a DNS preset to apply the filters. To lift the restrictions and return to your previous DNS servers, click the option labeled Default DNS.

Suggested alternative (free)

If you want another choice, consider NxFilter (free edition). It provides DNS filtering with more configuration options for administrators and can be deployed on a local network for broader control.
